Hencken Designs LLC is a boutique graphic design firm specializing in WordPress website design solutions. Hencken Designs develops semi-custom WordPress powered websites. A semi-custom website is when a project is based on an existing website theme or template and then customized to meet the clients needs. By starting with an existing theme, we are able to save a significant amount of development time while still achieving a unique website at a fraction of the cost of a built from scratch completely custom website. Also, because the site is powered by WordPress, if you choose, Hencken Designs will be able to show you how to update the majority of your website yourself, therefore saving you the expense of hiring a web professional to have to update the site for you. Of course, if you prefer, we can give you a quote for website maintenance as well.

Camp Fire USA OC website is live!

Exciting news! The most current Hencken Designs website project is live. Camp Fire USA Orange County Council needed a complete redesign of their website. The new website not only allows the organization to be able to make most of the updates to the site themselves, but the website is also a “responsive” design. Responsive design means the website changes its layout dependant upon the device it is being viewed on. If you go to the site www.campfireusaoc.org on your smartphone it will look different than it does on your computer monitor. This new way of designing websites is a great way to handle the ever evolving way consumers are viewing web content.

The Launch of Hencken Designs’ Website

It’s finally happened. The website I have planned to build for months has finally come to fruition.

I have been very fortunate to be working on some fun and exciting projects in which I learn something new every day. The most recent addition to my design and development portfolio is the customization of WordPress themes. I have utilized WordPress in the past as a blogging platform. However, the more I explored it, I came to understand the power it has as a Content Management System.

I researched a number of different options for clients who wanted more than a static website. Several of my clients were looking for a website that was easily updatable and had back end functionality such as e-commerce. I checked out Joomla, Drupal, Adobe Business Catalyst and WordPress. The latter seemed to be the best choice from both a designer/developers standpoint and a client standpoint as WordPress has a fairly modest learning curve.

Utilizing HTML & CSS, the ability to customize existing WordPress themes to meet client needs leads to a website with greater functionality at a more affordable pricetag. My next goal is to learn PHP coding to be able to add even more customization options for my clients.

My next important project for Hencken Designs? Finishing my own business card. Design work is just like shoemaking – the cobbler’s children always run barefoot.
